When Should You Hire a Furniture Dismantling Service?
When Do You Need Furniture Dismantling?
Moving home, renovating, replacing flooring, returning a rental property or moving large furniture between rooms may all require dismantling and reassembly. Tall wardrobes, modular cabinets, gas-lift beds, bookcases and office workstations can damage walls when moved whole and may not fit through a Hong Kong door or lift.
What Should Not Be DIY Dismantled?
Panel Wardrobes and Modular Cabinets
Cam locks, dowels and thin back panels need to be released in the right order. Force or the wrong tool can chip boards and make the unit unstable after reassembly.
Sliding-Door Wardrobes
Doors must be removed from the correct side before tracks and frames are dismantled. Even a slightly bent track can cause poor sliding.
Gas-Lift Beds and Large Bed Frames
Gas struts are pressurised and can spring out when handled incorrectly. Large frames also require at least two people, so an experienced technician is safer.
How to Prepare for a Dismantling Service
- List the furniture to dismantle and keep
- Photograph the front, back and connection points
- Explain both addresses, floors, lifts and stair access
- Empty drawers, cabinets and under-bed storage
- Agree who will store and package removed fittings
Professional Dismantling Process
The technician protects floors and walls, dismantles from the outside in, labels screws and fittings in separate bags, and wraps each panel. At the new location, the furniture is rebuilt, levelled and tested to reduce missing parts and incorrect assembly.
