Office Relocation Furniture Checklist for Admins and Office Managers
Why Office Furniture Needs Professional Dismantling
Office furniture differs greatly from home furniture: workstation clusters are interconnected with cable trays and trunking; tall filing cabinets have locks and rails; boardroom tables scratch at the slightest knock. DIY dismantling risks damage — and a delayed reopening.
Four Weeks Before: Planning
- Inventory everything to be dismantled: workstation count, partition sizes, filing cabinets, boardroom furniture
- Photograph the current workstation layout — replicate or re-plan it at the new office
- Get quotes from a dismantling company — a furniture list with photos makes quotes far more accurate
One Week Before: Preparation
- Ask staff to empty personal drawers and cabinets
- Label every item and component with its destination position
- Confirm loading windows, cargo lift dimensions and protection requirements at both sites
Moving Day: Dismantle and Reassemble
1. Dismantling Order
Remove partition accessories first (worktops, trunking covers, shelves), then the partition frames; pack cabinet shelves and keys separately. Bag and label all screws and fittings so reassembly stays organised.
2. Reassembly
At the new office, rebuild to the pre-agreed floor plan. Level each workstation cluster, and complete desks before IT reconnects cabling.
Time Budget
A 10-person office (workstations and cabinets) typically takes one day to dismantle and reassemble; for 30+ staff, plan two days — one to dismantle and pack, one to rebuild. Out-of-hours work (evenings or weekends) keeps business completely uninterrupted.
